March 1. I hate it...

when I have to destroy a web which has taken hours to build.
But this massive girl had built her web right in front of our bedroom window
and she is BIG even by Australian standards. (No crop.)
She will rebuild somewhere else.

I can understand and she will rebuild. What a great capture of her!

Fabulous backlighting. Excellent closeup. I had a big one build a web on my front door and felt the same way about having to tear down the web.

Nice backlighting!

Nice big spider! I hate to move them, and I hate it when they move inside the house!! Good idea to use the coppery tones!

Lovely neighbours you have. I had one in front of my kitchen window for months. Kept the window close that time and let her stay.
Guest 02-Mar-2012 12:06
You didn't keep her as a pet then ?
shatterbug02-Mar-2012 07:54
That looks like a prehistoric spider...better that she moves than take over the place.. Excellent macro!

YIKES! I agree that she should be evicted!

Super close up. Love the way you captured the strands of the web and the toning is gorgeous.
Máire Uí Mhaicín01-Mar-2012 21:39
An excellent capture, that displays the industry of these busy creatures.
Chris01-Mar-2012 20:55
I remember them so well and they are huge, she is spectacular.
Frank Brault01-Mar-2012 20:23
Much as I dislike spiders, I love this image. BV
Bill Ewart Jr01-Mar-2012 20:19
Ditto......Hate it too!
Brian Samuel01-Mar-2012 20:03
Eik! Not a visitor you necessarily want to wake-up to. Maybe spiders like spinning webs and it gave her an opportunity to practice :0)
Nicely done, if a little scarey.
Janice Dunn01-Mar-2012 19:33
Your Ozzy spiders are scary...
Johnny JAG01-Mar-2012 19:20
That's way too big! And I normally don't mind spiders!
Guest 01-Mar-2012 17:19
Well done Sheila, a fantastic capture!

Glad to hear you didn't give it a size 10 slipper for a present, lovely image ...v
laine01-Mar-2012 15:56
We sometimes drive in at night and an Orb has built across the driveway from tree to tree...have no choice but to break it and she usually lands on the car and get's a free ride :)
I like the hairy detail
rousselziak01-Mar-2012 15:55
Beautiful spider but i hate that too ! -V-

I know just what you mean. I feel quite awful about it. I try not to, but sometimes it is impossible not to break the webs. She is a lovely looking spider and I like the monochromatic treatment. V

Very well caught.
Yvonne01-Mar-2012 10:41
I walk around the garden holding a long cane to break webs that cross the paths,
the spiders aren't as large as this lady though!
Barbara Heide01-Mar-2012 10:36

Stephanie01-Mar-2012 10:30
