Kodak A.G. Recomar 33 Film Camera Sample Photos and Specifications

This was my first ground glass view camera. I still have it and quite a few negatives in my files. Mine is the 9x12 cm version. There was also a 6x9. The lens was a Kodak Anastigmat, f/4.5, I think essentially a Tessar type. I was not as happy with it as I was with the Zeiss version of this design, which had a real Zeiss Tessar. Lots of manufacturers made similar cameras. They took either 9x12 single holders (you had to remove the ground glass to slip the holder in) or film packs. There were also 6x9 backs that took 120 film. I preferred this because it was so much more convenient to use the roll film. Even in the 1960's the film packs were hard to come by here in the US. The 4x5 inch packs, of course, wouldn't work. I also liked the 135mm lens with the 6x9 format; it was great for portraits (as we liked to make them then, before the wide angle virus took hold!). Very few folks would have patience for using this type of camera these days.
